Ski Schools in Courchevel: ESF, Independent Schools & Pricing Guide

With 800 instructors at peak season, Courchevel offers unmatched ski instruction. Compare ESF vs independent schools, discover pricing, and find the perfect fit for your ski holiday.

Courchevel is one of the most well-served ski resorts in the world when it comes to instruction. With roughly 800 ski instructors operating across the resort at peak season, you are spoilt for choice — but that abundance can itself feel overwhelming if you don't know where to start.

The ESF — École du Ski Français

The ESF, or French Ski School, is the institution that most people think of first when it comes to ski lessons in France, and Courchevel is one of its flagship bases. Founded in 1947, the ESF has been teaching generations of skiers on these slopes for nearly eight decades.

In Courchevel alone, there are three separate ESF schools operating across the different resort altitudes:

Children's Programmes

For the youngest children, the Club Piou Piou programme provides a playful and structured introduction to snow from as young as 18 months old, in a dedicated children's village area of around three hectares. Older children progress through structured badge programmes culminating in timed slalom tests known as the Fléchette and Chamois.

Book Early — It's Essential

Because Courchevel attracts a high proportion of guests who prioritise private tuition, instructor availability during Christmas and February holidays is limited and demand is fierce. Booking your ski lessons at the same time as your property, and well before your arrival, is not just advisable — it is essential for a stress-free holiday.
