Courchevel chalets with pool and spa: what is actually inside

The word spa does not describe any particular equipment. A sauna at the end of a corridor and a heated pool you can swim lengths in carry the same label in a listing. If you pick a chalet because it says spa, you have not picked anything yet.

Here is what our catalogue says, checked on 12 September 2026. Of the 27 chalets we list in Courchevel 1850, 14 have an indoor pool. At our two top service levels it is 13 out of 16. And every one of those 14 also has spa equipment. In 1850, a chalet with a pool and no spa does not exist in our catalogue.

That changes the question. At this level the pool is not what separates one chalet from another. It is expected, and it is usually there. What separates them is smaller, and it is not what the listings put forward.

The word that misleads is pool, not spa

When a listing says spa, what you find on arrival is usually close to what you pictured. The problem is the other word.

In the middle and entry ranges of the resort, small marble basins are called pools. You get in, you sit, you get out. It is closer to a hot tub than to anything you can swim in. That is where the disappointment comes from, and it is not a top end problem. At the top end I have not had a client disappointed by a spa.

It also works the other way round, and that surprises people. Every chalet with a pool in 1850 comes with spa equipment. A spa does not always come with a pool. 13 of the chalets we list in 1850 have no pool, and several of those still have a full spa area. One has a hammam, a sauna, a jacuzzi, a massage room and a fitness room, and no pool anywhere in the building.

So the question is not whether there is a pool. It is how long it is, and whether anyone actually swims in it. If the pool is the part you really care about, the chalets with a proper indoor pool are listed separately.

What is usually missing is not the pool. It is the sauna

Inside the spa area you nearly always find a hammam, a jacuzzi and a massage room. The piece that goes missing is the sauna.

Counted on 12 September 2026, of the 14 chalets with an indoor pool we list in Courchevel 1850: 13 have a hammam, 12 have a massage room, and 9 have a sauna inside the chalet. 1 more lists a Norwegian sauna outside the building, which is not the same thing on a January evening and is worth checking rather than assuming.

That leaves 4 chalets among the best in the resort with a pool, a hammam and a massage room, and no sauna anywhere. Nobody reads that in a listing, because the listing says spa and stops there. If a sauna matters to you, that is the one line to check before anything else, by name, not under the word spa.

A massage room for two people is the other rare one. We know of one chalet that has it.

For what it is worth, if I had to keep one of the two, I would keep the hot tub and lose the sauna. Clients use it more. And if you would rather have a treatment outside the chalet, the hotel spas in the resort take outside bookings when their diary allows.

Water temperature, and what you need to arrange before you arrive

Nothing. The pools are heated and kept ready for the whole season. They are never cold on your first evening, and there is no call to make before you travel.

Pools sit at 27 to 28 degrees. Hot tubs at 37. If you want the water warmer, ask when you get there and it is raised.

Private spa or shared spa: it is in the contract, before you decide

People expect a trap here, and there is not one. Whether the spa is private to your chalet or shared with the rest of the residence is written in the rental contract. Nobody signs and finds out on arrival.

Two real cases, both fine once you know. In the centre of 1850 there is a residence whose spa serves all of its apartments. The pool is very large, with a dedicated spa area at the level of a five star hotel, and it is sometimes open to outside guests. That is stated. In Le Praz there is a spa area shared between two chalets, which is more delicate when the two families do not know each other.

The resort is moving that way. New residences with services are built with a common spa rather than a private one. That is not a step down. A shared pool of that size beats a private basin you cannot swim in. But it is a choice, and it should be made on purpose rather than found out.

Ask for that line in the contract before you decide. It is always there.

The real constraint is not the pool. It is the week

The hard part stopped being the equipment some time ago. The hard part is finding the chalet free.

Christmas to New Year, and February, are the two that close first. For the week of 26 December 2026 to 2 January 2027, checked on 12 September 2026: out of the 245 Courchevel properties in our catalogue, 38 were still bookable. In Courchevel 1850, 12 units were left out of 91, and 5 of those were chalets. 8 of the 12 have an indoor pool, and 6 of those are apartments in the same residence.

That is a snapshot of one date and it moves, in both directions. One thing about reading it: our published planning runs Saturday to Saturday for all but 4 of the properties we list, so a Sunday to Sunday stay does not show as available even when it can still be quoted. Ask before you conclude there is nothing left.

What this means for the chalet you should pick

If you want a pool and a real spa, Courchevel 1850 is where the choice is, in price and in quality of the spa areas. That is simply where the density is.

Three things separate one chalet from another at that level, and the pool is not one of them.

The sauna. Check it by name. 9 of the 14 chalets with a pool in 1850 have one inside the building.

The size of the pool. Ask for the length in metres, or ask whether anyone swims lengths in it. That single question sorts a pool from a marble basin faster than any photograph.

Private or shared. It is in the contract. Ask for that line before you decide, not after.

And then the week, which is the thing that actually runs out.

Le Praz is the other honest answer, and it is new. That village used to be the one people skipped. On 12 September 2026 we list 13 chalets there, 6 of them have an indoor pool, and 5 of those have a sauna as well. Some very good properties with proper spa areas have come out there in the last few years.

Three chalets in 1850 that carry both

Perce Neige, Nogentil. 8 bedrooms, 15 guests. Indoor pool, hammam, indoor jacuzzi, massage room, hot tub, fitness room. No sauna, and that is exactly the check we were talking about.

Les Bruxellois, Plantret. 7 bedrooms, 12 guests plus 2 children. Indoor pool, sauna, hammam, massage room, hot tub, fitness room. 50 metres from the slopes.

Moon 1850, centre of 1850. 7 bedrooms, 12 guests plus 2 children. Indoor pool, sauna, hammam, massage room, hot tub, fitness room.

And the shared one, if the size of the pool matters more to you than owning it

Atmosphere, in the centre of 1850. One spa area and one very large pool, shared by the whole residence, at the level of a hotel spa. The apartments run from 2 to 4 bedrooms and there is a 7 bedroom penthouse. The sharing is written in the rental contract, and it is sometimes open to outside guests. For a family that wants to swim properly rather than own the water, it is the best pool on this list.
