The level of chalet service in Courchevel Village has become very strong. In his experience, some staffed chalets now come surprisingly close to the service expectations associated with 1850, although he would not equate the two markets completely.

In Sonny's experience, proximity to the Grangettes gondola is one of the most useful location differences within Courchevel Village. The closer the property is to the lower station, the easier it is to start the ski day and move up towards 1850 without a car.

For me, Courchevel Village increasingly answers a brief that would once have gone automatically to 1850.
The main attraction is the ability to find high-quality, sometimes staffed chalets at a lower accommodation price while remaining directly connected to 1850 by the Grangettes gondola.
What you give up is mainly the concentration of restaurants, luxury shops, hotels and evening life that exists in 1850.
I therefore look at Village for families or international groups who want a strong chalet product and easy access to 1850, but do not need to be surrounded by the 1850 lifestyle every time they leave the chalet.

In Sonny's experience, Moriond feels more self-contained as a village, with a stronger informal bar, restaurant and apartment-residence identity. Courchevel Village is smaller and its relationship with 1850 is more central to the way many guests use it.
Village has also developed a particularly strong private-chalet offering, including high-service chalets, while Moriond remains a broader mix of apartments, residences and family accommodation.

Landmarks
The Grangettes gondola provides a direct lift connection between Courchevel Village and Courchevel 1850. Courchevel currently states that during the winter season the Praz and Grangettes gondolas operate on urban schedules, from 07:45 to 23:30. That is the schedule the resort publishes today, not a commitment on our part, and it can change from one season to the next. Courchevel's free shuttle network also connects Courchevel Village with the other villages. The resort describes it as a free bus service serving all the villages of Courchevel, in winter and in summer. Le Catérail, beside the Grangettes gondola in the heart of Courchevel Village, is one of the village's established après-ski and evening addresses.

Sonny's local take
Courchevel Village is increasingly where I look when a client likes the idea of 1850 but finds the accommodation prices difficult to justify. The chalet market here can be very competitive, with some very high-quality staffed chalets at a substantially lower accommodation price than comparable briefs in 1850.
The practical advantage is the combination of price, ski access and the direct connection with Courchevel 1850. Many properties are close to the ski infrastructure, and the Grangettes gondola makes it possible to move between Village and 1850 without relying entirely on a private chauffeur.
The clientele I see here is still very international and family-oriented. For skiing, Village works across a broad range of levels because guests start by taking the lifts into the wider ski area rather than choosing the village for one specific type of piste.
The main compromise is village life. Courchevel Village has enough restaurants and essential services for everyday needs, but the choice of shopping, restaurants and après-ski is much more limited than in 1850. Guests who want a large choice of evening venues usually end up going up to 1850.
