What goes first, and what your budget really gets you
Christmas and New Year are the first two weeks to go in Courchevel, every year. Many of the people who come for these weeks book the next one when they leave.
Sonny: It is simple. The places that go first are the best looking ones, and the ones with really good staff.
So in September there is still choice, but it is not the same choice as in spring.
For New Year, what is left is mostly apartments, and a few chalets. The figures at the top of this page carry the date they were read, and the published prices are for that exact week.
Sonny: For these two weeks it is always the same. The budget decides where you go. You cannot get a fully staffed chalet in 1850 with 20,000 euros. It is impossible.
If you write to me in November, there is still something available most years. It is what nobody wanted, and what is left on the market.
What it means for the place you pick. Start with the budget, not with the village. If the budget does not fit a staffed chalet in 1850, there are two honest answers: an apartment in 1850, or a bigger place in a lower village. Tell me the dates, the number of people and the budget, and I will give you the most exact answer I can.

Why Book a Christmas Chalet in Courchevel 1850
Christmas week, running Saturday to Saturday, 19 to 26 December in 2026, is one of the most popular booking periods in Courchevel, and one of the first to sell out. The village centre sits at 1,747 metres, but the snow reliability comes from the ski area above it: 85% of the Three Valleys lies above 1,800 metres and the terrain rises to 2,738 metres at the Saulire. Courchevel and Le Praz open on 4 December 2026, Village, Moriond and La Tania on 5 December, so the full network is running well before Christmas week.
One thing worth knowing about this particular season. Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday, which splits the New Year period into two different weeks. The classic changeover is Saturday 26 December to Saturday 2 January. The alternative runs Sunday 27 December to Sunday 3 January, and it gets families home the day before school returns on Monday 4 January. That second rotation is in far higher demand than usual this year, and it is the one that disappears first. If your dates have any flexibility, deciding between the two early is worth more than any other choice you will make about the week.
The tree, the welcome basket and the champagne
Sonny: The Christmas tree is in the staffed chalets. We do not put trees in apartments in Courchevel.
So if the tree matters to your family, it is one more reason to look at a chalet with staff and not at an apartment.
When you arrive there is a welcome basket: a few snacks, coffee, tea.
Champagne is not included in staffed chalets at New Year. Many sites say it is, and this page said it too. There is a bottle in the basket only if it is included in the price of your place. If it is not written in your booking, do not count on it. Ask me before, and I will tell you what is really included.
What it means for the place you pick. Read what is included in the price of each property, line by line. For these two weeks the difference between two places at the same price is often there.
The chef: book him on the same day as the chalet
People think a chef will not come on the 24th or on the 31st. That is not the problem.
Sonny: No, he does not refuse to come on the evening of the 31st. The hardest part is to find a chef who is available. If he is available, he will come. There is no problem. From what I see, most chefs work seven days a week in the season. No day off.
So why is it hard? In these two weeks most chefs try to lock a full week with one family. A chef who is locked for the week is not free for your dinner any more. That is why there is always a little bit of last minute in these requests, and in the last minute part I cannot promise you a name.
What it means for the place you pick. Lock the chef at the same time as the place, and do it early. The simple way is a chalet where the chef comes with the property. If the chalet has no chef, ask me for one on the same day you ask for the chalet, not in December. If you are happy to eat out, an apartment works, and then the restaurant block below is for you.
Restaurants these two weeks
Sonny: For restaurants in these weeks it is ultra saturated. If you want the restaurants you want, doing it early is really important.
I book the tables for the people who rent with me. Send me the list when you book the place, not the week before.
What it means for the place you pick. If you plan to eat out most evenings, stay where you can walk to dinner, in the centre of 1850. If you do not want to fight for tables at all, take a chalet with a chef for the week.

Is the skiing good in late December?
Courchevel has reliable snow cover by mid-December, and it comes from the ski area rather than the village: 85% of the Three Valleys sits above 1,800 metres, with the Saulire at 2,738 metres. Courchevel and Le Praz open on 4 December 2026, the other villages on 5 December, so by Christmas week the majority of the 600km is operational.
Should I book the Saturday or the Sunday changeover for New Year 2026?
Christmas Day 2026 is a Friday, so there are two credible weeks rather than one. Saturday 26 December to Saturday 2 January is the traditional rotation. Sunday 27 December to Sunday 3 January brings families home the day before school starts again on Monday 4 January, which is why it is under real pressure this season and sells out first. Tell us which of the two you need when you enquire, because availability differs sharply between them.
Can you arrange a Christmas Eve dinner in the chalet?
Yes. A chef does not refuse to come on the 24th. What is hard in Christmas week is to find one who is still available, because most chefs are locked for the full week. If the dinner on the 24th matters to you, ask me for the chef when you book the place, not in December. The simple way is a chalet where the chef comes with the property.
Do chalets come decorated for Christmas?
The staffed chalets have a Christmas tree. Apartments do not. When you arrive there is a welcome basket with snacks, coffee and tea, and a bottle of champagne only if it is included in the price of your place.
