Every ski hire shop in La Tania and Le Praz, who delivers to your chalet, how the online discounts actually work, and what to book for the children before you travel.
Stand outside the ski hire shops in La Tania on a Saturday afternoon in changeover week and you will hear more Dutch, German and English than French. This is the family end of the Courchevel valley, and the weekly ritual is the same for everyone: drop the bags, fit the boots, and get the children sorted before the first lift on Sunday morning.
The good news is that ski hire here is easier than almost anywhere else in the Three Valleys. Both villages are small, every shop sits within a few minutes of every front door, and two operators will skip the shop entirely and fit your skis in your chalet. The less good news: walk-in prices in February are nobody's friend. Book online before you travel and the same skis cost a fraction of the rack rate.

The ski hire shops in La Tania
La Tania has three established rental operations, all inside the car-free village centre, so nothing is more than a short walk in ski boots.
Intersport, Résidence Les Folyères. The Intersport "Centre Station" shop sits at the base of the village near the beginner lift, close to the ski school meeting point and the tourist office. It carries the full Intersport Rent range from budget to premium, and the online deal is the strongest in the village on paper: up to 60 percent off web prices, the seventh day free, equipment pick-up from 5pm the day before your first ski day, and free swaps if conditions change or the skis do not suit. You can cancel up to 24 hours before pick-up.
Ski Higher, Le Grand Bois. An independent run under the Sport 2000 banner, on the ground floor of the Grand Bois building just over the bridge, right next to the main piste. Skis and boards from Head, Rossignol and Elan, plus gloves, socks, helmets and goggles if anything got left at home. Pre-booking online saves 20 percent, and the shop runs overnight servicing plus ski storage at 7 euros a day or 39 euros for six days, which spares you carrying skis through the village every evening. Ski Wave, by Skiset. At the foot of the slopes, this is the village's Skiset franchise: rental packages across all levels, boot fitting, a repair workshop, boot drying and snowshoe hire, with paid delivery available. Booking through the Skiset site applies the usual online discounts, which the network advertises at 10 to 50 percent depending on dates.
Some directories list a fourth shop, Alpiski, but we could not find a live booking presence for it in La Tania. The three above are the ones you can rely on. The ski hire shops in Le Praz
Le Praz, the old village at 1300, has more rental capacity than its size suggests. Four operators share a village you can cross on foot in five minutes.
White Storm. The specialist of the village, in the centre about two minutes from the slopes. White Storm does proper boot fitting rather than a quick size match, and its mobile team will deliver and fit everything in your accommodation instead. Gormier Sports, by Skiset. At 2 Allée des Cerisiers, in the village centre. A long-standing family shop on the Skiset network, with a workshop, free ski lockers and a 3D foot scanner for boot sizing. When we checked, the Skiset network's booking platform was quoting Le Praz packages from around 92 pounds, with online discounts of 10 to 50 percent depending on week and category.
Intersport. At 15 Rue de la Cour, with the same online mechanics as the La Tania branch: up to 60 percent off online, seventh day free, pick-up from 5pm the day before, free mid-week swaps.
Olympic Sports. The village's historic sports shop, named after Le Praz's Olympic ski jumps. At the time of writing its online booking was closed for the season, so plan to call or drop in rather than reserve ahead.
What ski hire actually costs
Here is the honest answer nobody puts on a poster: there is no fixed price list. Every shop in both villages prices dynamically, so the same six-day adult package costs more in February half-term than in early December, and more for a premium ski than a first-week beginner model. None of the operators publishes a flat rate card.
What you can control is the discount. The gap between walk-in and pre-booked online prices is the single biggest lever: Intersport advertises up to 60 percent off for online bookings, Skiset shops between 10 and 50 percent, Ski Higher a straight 20 percent for pre-booking. Children's packages always cost meaningfully less than adult ones, and helmets can be added to any booking for a few euros a day.
Two rules of thumb follow. First, book before you travel, always. Second, if your dates are Christmas, New Year or the February school holidays, book two to three weeks ahead at minimum: the discount tiers fill up before the shops do.
Children, helmets and the fitting that matters
Children's hire is where the local shops earn their keep. A child's setup is not a shrunken adult one: boots come first and drive everything else, skis run shorter than you expect, and bindings are set to the child's actual weight. Give exact height, weight and shoe size when you book, not last winter's numbers. Every shop here fits children daily all season and will swap sizes mid-week for free if boots pinch or a growth spurt intervenes.
Helmets are non-negotiable for children: ESF expects them in lessons, and every shop in both villages rents them. Add the helmet at booking rather than in resort, and if your children are in lessons, sort the ski school and the equipment for the same start day so the first morning is not a scramble.
One more local trick: collect equipment the afternoon before your first ski day. Intersport formally offers pick-up from 5pm the day before, and the other shops are relaxed about late-afternoon fittings. A Saturday 5pm fitting beats a Sunday 8.45am queue in every possible way.
Delivery to your chalet
If you are travelling with children, or simply do not fancy the boot-room shuffle, both villages have a genuine delivery option. Ski Higher's mobile team covers La Tania and the wider Courchevel and Méribel area: you book online, a technician arrives at your chalet with a van of equipment, and everyone is fitted in the living room. White Storm runs the same service in Le Praz, delivered and custom-fitted in your accommodation.
For a family of five, the price difference against shop rental is usually smaller than the value of a Saturday afternoon not spent in a queue. If you are staying in one of the chalets on our La Tania pages, delivery is the option we would book first.

Many of the families who fill La Tania and Le Praz each winter arrive from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, so here is the short version in both languages.
